At 9:00 AM on April 8, MOTI held a global online new product launch event, unveiling its latest nicotine technology research achievement "Nicotine X" and the latest e-cigarette product S1. In his opening remarks, MOTI CEO Chen Min stated that the e-cigarette industry has experienced ups and downs over the past year, and today stands at a historic new starting point. He hopes to drive industry development together with partners through continuous innovation in technology and products.
Due to the impact of the pandemic, large-scale offline events were not feasible, so the launch was conducted via online livestream. According to the release, all e-liquids in the Nicotine X formula contain 1.7% nicotine, yet deliver a throat hit and head buzz comparable to that of traditional cigarettes with over 3% or 5% nicotine, reducing smokers' desire to return to traditional cigarettes. All future MOTI e-cigarette products will adopt the 1.7% ultra-low nicotine formula of Nicotine X.
Dr. Xing Chenyue's research manuscript for Nicotine X

MOTI Chief Scientist Xing Chenyue explained that Nicotine X is named after the mathematical unknown X, representing infinite possibilities and variables. The core technology is a "Lego-style formula," which selects over a dozen components related to addiction, taste, and flavor from thousands of natural tobacco components. By precisely calculating the acid-base balance between these components and nicotine, the required range for each component is determined, and different formula base modules are assembled. The research also incorporates considerations of three-dimensional intermolecular space, with modules fine-tuned for different e-liquid flavor formulations. MOTI has adopted a protection model combining trade secrets and global patent applications for this achievement, and has filed multiple patents for new formulas and aerosol directions.
When the Nicotine X formula was first introduced, MOTI decided to prioritize the original flavor process to replicate the flavor of Chinese-style roasted tobacco, launching the No. 3 mellow flavor. During the development, high-quality roasted tobacco leaves were selected, and the base aroma of Chinese-style roasted tobacco was refined. A team of tobacco flavorists and testers with an average of over ten years of experience was recruited to conduct repeated blind tests against top-tier Chinese cigarettes. The flavor was finely tuned according to the aroma profile of cigarettes before, during, and after burning, combined with the atomization mechanism and power of the device, optimizing the base oil ratio to produce a rich yet not greasy vapor.
S1 is a new product series following the P (pod) and G (disposable) series, and is the first product to feature the Nicotine X formula. In addition to the No. 3 mellow flavor, other flavor pods with the Nicotine X core formula are also available. In terms of technological innovation, S1 is the first to apply MEMS pressure differential sensing chip technology, replacing traditional airflow switches. It monitors the strength of inhalation airflow in real time, controls battery output power, and thereby individually and stably controls the heating power of the e-liquid, intelligently adjusting vapor production based on the smoker's inhalation habits. MOTI Chief Operating Officer Liu Yu stated that based on extensive user research, smokers' inhalation habits vary individually. After over six months of testing, the R&D team was the first to apply this technology, hoping that every puff smokers take is "customized."
William Rooney, Head of Product and Supply Chain at VPZ, the largest e-cigarette retail chain in the UK, expressed deep impression with the product's excellent design and quality, and looks forward to bringing more surprises to British consumers as a strategic partner. After multiple refinements, S1 finally selected four colors from the PANTONE color chart: pine green, midnight blue, coral red, and deep space gray. It is reported that after its initial release in mainland China, S1 will enter markets such as the UK, Canada, and Malaysia.
In his speech, Chen Min stated that the pandemic has impacted the e-cigarette industry, and MOTI, as a young company, is also undergoing market baptism. However, he believes that companies that remain standing after the waves will have greater opportunities. Choosing this time to release new technology and products aims to inject confidence into the industry and partners. He also mentioned that the change in nicotine content from 5% to 3% to 1.7% may bring a new round of development for the e-cigarette industry. The invention of nicotine salts once increased the conversion rate of e-cigarette users in the United States by five to six times, and the effect this time is worth anticipating.
