We get inspiration from Surrounded Island. It is not only a large installation work, but also an outdoor art exhibition, emphasizing the harmonious coexistence of human, land and sea. An overseas event execution case attracted many people to watch.

The work is located in Biscayne Bay, Miami, and consists of 11 islands. In 1983, it was created by artist couple Christo and Jeanne-Clsude. They raised money by selling their works and did not accept any form of sponsorship.

The island is covered with pink polypropylene woven fabric, extending 61 meters to the sea. Within two weeks, people can see, approach and appreciate the 11.3 kilometers of surrounded islands from the causeway, land, water and air. The shiny fabric, bright pink and the green tropical vegetation on the uninhabited island, the light of the Miami sky, and the color of the shallow water in Biscayne Bay contrast with each other.

When the project was first proposed, it received close attention from environmentalists, wildlife experts, marine engineers and other experts and the society.

Last year, the Perez Museum of Art held a retrospective exhibition of Surrounded Island, telling the story behind the work and the exhibition through archives, materials, drawings, models and documentaries. Although it has been a long time, this art exhibition held in the ocean still leaves us a wide space for thinking: can the exhibition only be held indoors? What will the installation do after the exhibition? How will man and nature coexist harmoniously?
