Salt Lake City International Airport is currently undergoing an ambitious reconstruction plan aimed at creating a space full of beautiful and rich natural elements for an estimated 20 million passengers. The installation in the escalator shaft of the new terminal is inspired by the waterfall in the Utah Canyon landscape. This device is approximately six stories high from the ceiling to the ground, utilizing natural light and colored, light sensitive dichroic glass panels and light refracting glass rods to create a stunning and constantly changing visual effect. The design inspiration for this device comes from artist Gordon Huether's profound understanding and insight into the Utah Canyon landscape.

After visiting a canyon in Utah, Gordon Huether was deeply moved by the reasons for its formation and the way light affects weathered rock layers. The spectacular shape and stripes of the canyon influenced his design of the east and west walls of the new main terminal. He plans to incorporate the spectacular scenery and natural textures of the canyon into the design of the airport through artistic installations and decorations, bringing passengers a visual and spiritual feast.

At the same time, HOK Construction Company will be responsible for overall architectural design and planning to ensure that the functionality and aesthetics of the airport are fully integrated.
